Water almost entirely surrounds the town.  Monroe Bay is an excellent harbor for yachts; indeed, it has often been described as the best on the Potomac River. Several marine railways are located on the bay.  Fishing reigns as the King of Sports.  Of special interest are the number and size of rack, trout, and hardhead caught in nearby waters.  Visitors to Colonial Beach enjoy a large and well-equipped fishing fleet at their disposal. The Washington to Baltimore freight boats ended their landings in 1933 & the ferry to Morgantown ceased operations in 1936.
